Each figure represented on the map links to an audio file. For instance, the audio file numbered 3 corresponds to number 3 on the map, which is the farm.

Crèvecoeur is an example of a miraculously preserved castle and is also a listed historic site.

Built between the edges of dry land and the low lying valley of Life River which was used as a natural barrier, Crèvecoeur used to be, undoubtedly about the XI century, the head of fortified residence.

Ten centuries of the rich medieval history of Normandy are here, recorded in documents and various items which have survived to the present day. During the 19th century a book was published which gave accounts of rich Englishmen, who during the XII century, gave generous donations to abbeys!

You are in front of the gatehouse, a building registered in the additional Inventory of Historic Monuments.

The XVI century gatehouse is flanked by two round turrets topped with a pointed roof. Today, it houses the reception and the gatehouse. Boasting a portal, the ground floor was constructed with alternating brick and stone. The upper floor was constructed in timber panelling with the wall framing made of bars and fern leaves.

The Gatehouse was moved then rebuilt outside the medieval site in 1973, this edifice comes from the castle of Beuvillers, 20 kms from here, near Lisieux.

Enter into the outer bailey. Follow the plan. Please walk next to the well, towards point number 2 for the next point of interest.
