The Water path is so called because of the Valunga Lake, a reservoir of artificial water that is encountered along the way, and because of the numerous fish ponds present on the territory of the Roero plateau.
Obtained to have a reserve of water in summer, the fish ponds represented a significant source of food and income for the fish fauna that was bred there (the tench).
This area of ​​the Roero, historically known as the "higher ends", was also an important wooded reserve due to the presence of the silva popularis, an extension already known in Roman times.
Predominantly flat area, its soils are known as "red soil" due to their reddish clay composition: bricks, tiles and tiles of various sizes and uses were obtained by cooking.
