Audio tourThe forum
The Forum, the main hall for all visitors to the Royal Museums, was designed by architect Alphonse Balat (1818-1895) and has preserved its original form. The building was inaugurated by King Leopold II in 1880 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Belgian nation. Originally intended for temporary exhibitions - official shows and annual exhibitions of the group Les XX – it was assigned in 1887 to the conservation of the museum’s permanent collections.
All the galleries of the Museums depart from this majestic hall and its surrounding first floor gallery. Its imposing surface (55m x 18m) highlights some sculptures and paintings of large dimensions.
Since ancient times to modern computer language, a forum has been considered a place of meeting and discussion open to all. After discovering our collections in the Oldmasters Museum, Fin-de-Siècle Museum and Magritte Museum, come to the Forum to exchange your impressions and discuss about your favourites works.
