About the museum
Highlights include such works by significant artists as Benjamin West, Thomas Sully, James Peale, Anna Claypoole Peale (one of America’s first female artists), and sculptor William Rush. This historically invaluable collection also includes a range of objects, from furniture such as William Penn’s writing desk, to decorative arts such as ceramics, to hard-to-classify antiquities such as a machine Benjamin Franklin used to conduct electrical experiments and a lock of George Washington’s hair. We present an exhibition of a selection of these objects and hope viewers will explore and discover about the Library Company and its history.
You are invited to visit the Logan Room in person, as the guide will give you more detailed information on the works that are housed here. Alternatively, you can experience the items in this room digitally from this guide alone; although it is slightly outdated, you may get a sense of the room's layout and how these items are arranged from this panoramic photograph.
The Library Company is free and open to the public.
