Lelystad became the capital city of the IJsselmeerpolders (the name by which Flevoland was known in the past) and was named after the man behind the Zuiderzee project, ir. Cornelis Lely; he designed the plan for the closing off of the Zuiderzee. With a vast coastline, five marinas and a number of beaches, Lelystad is the ideal destination for anyone who loves water sports. The coastline features a variety of restaurants, all of which have great views of the water.
