Trivia:
1. The track began to be constructed in 1938 between two artificial lakes. The circuit was named "Interlagos", which sounds close to the Portuguese "entre lagos", meaning "between the lakes."
2. In 1985 the track was renamed to the Autódromo José Carlos Pace to honor the Brazilian F1 driver who was killed in a plane crash in 1977.
3. Of the 42 Brazilian Grand Prix in Formula 1, 30 have taken place at Interlagos.
4. The Brazilian Grand Prix is the only South American race in the modern FIA world championship.
5. Four Brazilian drivers have won the Grand Prix in São Paulo: Carlos Pace won once, and Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna and Felipe Massa each won twice.
6. Rubens Barrichello, a native of São Paulo, has never been able to conquer his home track. He failed to finish 11 of 19 races at Interlagos.
7. The track in São Paulo is the second shortest after Monaco, though the Brazilian track is much faster than the narrow streets of Monte Carlo.
