Om museet

The Museum of Pharmacy. It opened on March 21, 1988. The museum building itself is an architectural monument of national significance - an 18th-century residential building with a rococo portal and doors. The building has dormer windows (lucarnes), five rows of six-pane windows, basement hatches, double-wing entrance gates, a cargo lifting device on the roof at the back and a rectangular courtyard, which now houses a garden of medicinal plants. The last architect to contribute to the construction of the building was Karl Johann Felsko (1844-1918). In the 19th century, Heinrich Gablenz lived in the building, opening a carriage repair shop in the courtyard; for this reason it was called the "Gablenz House" or the "Carriage Maker's House". The 1888 stained glass window depicting Heinrich Gablenz in the building of the Riga Small Guild conveys with photographic accuracy the face of the doyen of the carriage maker's guild of the late 19th century. In Soviet times, this street was called Kommunalnaya, and the building was converted into communal apartments. And we are entering the Pharmaceutical Museum through the front door of the building.
