音频游览 Historic Manzano -Tunuyán

Located in the Andes mountain range, the Manzano Histórico reserve is unique for its landscape of crystalline streams and its historical-cultural richness. Here is the mountain pass that General San Martín crossed on his return from the Liberation Campaign in 1823 and the famous naturalist Charles Darwin, a few years later. It is also an area of rich water resources; in the mountain range it presents important glacial masses and is the headwaters of rivers and streams.

This valley with an arid climate, surrounded by snowy peaks, ravines and prominent vegetation, was the place chosen by the Liberator of America, General José de San Martín, to rest after his campaign in Chile and Peru. The name of this protected area refers to this historical event since, according to specialists, the general rested under a pavilion of ponchos, in the current reserve. In commemoration of this fact, the monument of the hero was erected, which today is an icon of the site. Due to its high landscape, natural, historical and cultural value, the Manzano Histórico was declared a nature reserve in 1994.
