People have lived here, on the hills above the river, for a thousand years, and in 1317 Torshälla received its town charters from king Birger Magnusson. The waterway and the proximity to lake Mälaren made Torshälla important for trade and shipping. The towns port has remained in the same location since medieval times! Apart from the ever present glint of water, Torshälla also offers a rich cultural heritage and plenty of green spaces. Today, the town has 10 000 inhabitants and since 1971, it is a part of Eskilstuna municipality.
In this cultural walking tour you will hear the history behind a few of the many interesting sites this town has to offer. You can begin the tour wherever you want and listen to the stories in the order of your preference.
