Audiotour Moovarkovil Central Temple

The lowest tier of the vimana has square dorms on its four corners which resembles the later Pallava cave temples of Mamallapuram. But, unlike Pallava design, the shikhara has three different tiers with niches in the middle of the side housing various images. Chaitya windows are provided on each side of the shrines, corner and middle ones.

The temple has some very elegant and impressive sculptures found in India. Their beauty lies in the devotion and fine details put in by the artists. There are excellent images of other Gods and Apsaras or celestial damsels in the shrine.

We will take you clockwise from the Northern wall onwards finally returning back to the details of the facing western wall.
