The street was emerged in Chelyabinsk at the beginning of the XIX century after the demolition of the fortress wall and expansion of the city. But the street name “Skobelevskaya” appeared much later - after the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. It was named in the honor of the Russian military figure, General of the Infantry Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev. At the beginning of the 20th century Skobelevskaya street passed by from the city center – Ufimskaya street (now Kirova), to the outskirts - West Boulevard (Volodarsky street). Today the former Skobelevskaya street is the part of the Commune street. The length of the Skobelevskaya was about 900 meters, but its location in the historic center of the city filled it with objects of historical and cultural heritage of different eras.
