Audiotour Stairway to heaven

Experience a unique climb through the KoepelKathedraal: Stairway to heaven! Suitable for anyone who is able-bodied. We will take you on a special journey to the dome. Architect Joseph Cuypers designed this beautiful Art Nouveau dome as a heavenly space, which refers to the New Jerusalem from the Apocalypse. During Stairway to heaven you will experience a unique climb up to 45 meters above the ground.

Discover the cathedral via exciting spiral staircases, secret passages, impressive vaults and hidden attics on the way to the heights. Above the vaults, the story of the Apocalypse comes to life. Let yourself be carried away by an age-old vision of struggle, hope and ultimate redemption in the heavenly Jerusalem. The Apocalypse has been a great source of inspiration for many filmmakers for decades.

Once in the dome, you stand on a complete 'city wall' with twelve gates - a direct reference to the biblical description. Look up at the 'gold of heaven' and down at a breathtaking view of the interior of the cathedral. Cuypers' dream was that a new Michelangelo would arise who would apply a mosaic to the dome. Unfortunately, that dream has not yet been fulfilled.

Back downstairs, you will experience the special atmosphere of the cathedral with its rich symbolism, beautiful stained glass windows, works of art and impressive organs.
