THE ETRUSCAN BUILDING OF VIALE BUOZZI

Along Viale Buozzi, between the Bastions “della Spina” and “del Belvedere”, you can see some ancient wall structures that emerged between 195 and 1960 during some works carried out in the gardens at the foot of the Fortress.

These are wall remains consisting of large square blocks of sandstone and dry-walled. The building was in the past improperly interpreted as the "Capitolium" of the city, given the three-cell structure that recalls that of the temples dedicated to the Gods of the Roman Pantheon (the Capitoline triad, consisting of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva).

However, the absence of excavation data does not allow a full understanding. The imposing dimensions and the relevant position, close to the top of the hill of San Donato, suggest a religious destination of the building, also in consideration of the discovery of architectural terracotta, pottery and other objects attributable to votive and cultic use.

The complex, by the materials found and the characteristics of the masonry, can be dated to the second century B.C.
