Über das Museum
Kenan Rifai International Research Center for Sufi Culture, under the Nef Foundation, features two exhibition halls.
1 - SUFI HISTORY WITH CONCEPTS EXHIBITION HALL :
In our exhibition hall, supervised by Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören of the Institute for Sufi Studies, you will find yourself wandering through those periods with graphics, objects, and installations that explain the history of Sufism through concepts.
You will be able to trace how Sufi life and thought, which began with the Prophet (pbuh), was classified through the characteristics that became prominent in Islamic history. In this framework, you will be able to breathe the air of the Prophet's era (Asr al-sa‘ādah) through sufi cardigan and the life of ṣuffa, and the era of ascetism (zuhd) through divine love. You will be able to recognize the attitudes of futuwwa (spiritual chivalry) and malāmah (the path of self-blame) that accompanied Sufism in the next period when the term taṣawwuf(sufism) was coined. You will be able to follow the times in which the stages of spiritual wayfaring (sulūk) -along with tarīqa and dhikr manners- were defined and recorded. Through an overview of the literature formed to date from a broad perspective, you will be able to examine sufi training, etiquette, and manners, the source of Sufi knowledge (kashf), and the view of tawḥīd that is based on Sufism’s view of existence (wujūd).
2 - KEN’AN RİFÂÎ EXHIBITION HALL:
In our exhibition hall, curated by Burçak Madran and featuring the biographical narrative of Kenan Rifâî, one of the last Ottoman Sufis, you will meet the Meşkûre Sargut Collection of the Kerim Foundation, registered as a collector at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art (TIEM). The Collection is honored with the Sacred Relics, namely the Prophet’s beard known as Sakal-ı Şerîf, the cover of the masjid of the Prophet known as Rawda al-Mutahhara, and inner-outer covers of Kaaba.
During our journey in this hall, you will see and listen to excerpts from Ken'ân Rifâî's 83 years of life full of faith and love, his works, his understanding of Sufism, his identity as an educator and his artistic personality. You will witness the richness of the legacy left behind by a friend of God, who lived in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the first period of the Turkish Republic.
The panels you will see in this hall are organised around certain themes or periods. There are also information boxes and drawers in the panels. You can examine special objects other than those exhibited in the glass showcases by opening the drawers. In addition, you can access some details about the relevant theme that cannot be included in the audio guide on the digital screens you will see in each panel.
