The General Library of Ciudad Real has an important ancient collection, mainly made up of books belonging to Don Joaquín de Entrambasaguas, an eminent professor at the Complutense University of Madrid and a great scholar of Spanish literature, and especially Lope de Vega. The University of Castilla-La Mancha acquired this collection in 1991, and it became part of our Campus Library, where it has been preserved since then, in the same placement order as in the former owner's house.

The collection consists of 25,000 books and pamphlets of different subjects, although with a clear predominance of Spanish literature. Special attention should be paid to the huge amount of works of a philological nature, the many and selected editions of works of Spanish literature, sometimes of great value, and to the theatre collections and editions.
