For Service and Bravery: Russian Awards. From the Collection of the Moscow Kremlin Museums

We are pleased to welcome you to the exhibition For Service and Bravery: Russian Awards which introduces the history of great battles and victories along with valor and devotion to the Motherland.

The collection contains over a hundred priceless monuments from Russia’s main treasury –the Moscow Kremlin Museums.

The main exhibits of the exhibition are the badge of the Order of St Andrew the First-Called which was awarded to both emperors of Russia and monarchs of foreign countries, and the Order of Victory –the highest military award of the USSR – awarded to military commanders for successes from 1944 to 1945. Both of these are on display for the first time outside Kremlin walls.

The collection of orders illustrates three historical eras of the Russian State from the end of the 17th century to the beginning of the 21st century: the Russian Empire, the USSR and modern-day Russia. This is a rich collection of orders made by the highest level of jewelry craftsmanship. The exhibition includes not only standard award badges, but also statutes, seals, vestments of heralds and icons of the patron saints of Russian orders.

Behind every genuine award are stories and legends.  We will recount the most important events, fates and heroic acts of these great names in history.
