Audioguía Hidden Nature in St Marie's

Hidden nature abounds in the Cathedral Church of St Marie - in the stained glass, artistic tiling and sculpture.

What's more, the Hidden Nature in St Marie's has hidden meanings, many of which we have forgotten in the hurly burly of modern society.

You will find plenty of animals, including several lions, a whale and a fish, a cow, a dog and a donkey, doves - representing the Holy Spirit - pelicans - an eagle, a bull and several examples of the Agnus Dei - Lamb of God - representation of Jesus.

When it comes to flora, there are roses, lilies, oak trees and acorns, vines and bunches of grapes, sheaves of wheat and, from foreign climes, pomegranates and palm fronds.

Some of the Hidden Nature in St Marie's is there because it is part of a story - the birth, baptism and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, from the dead.

Other examples are more symbolic, with traditional meanings that would have been instantly recognisable in Medieval times, but are less obvious today.
