With more than 800 volcanoes, it is one of the volcanic parks with the highest density and diversity on the planet. For this reason and for its scenic beauty, a large part of the reserve is part of a site proposed as a candidate for World Natural Heritage by UNESCO.

It is located in the department of Malargue, 570 km from the city of Mendoza and extends over an area of 665,682 ha. It has extensive scenarios covered with colorful volcanic materials, in which a sanctuary of fauna and flora lives. It is common for the visitor to see herds of guanacos, one of the largest populations in the Center-West of Argentina.

Its clear skies, clear during the day and dark at night, allow special Astrotourism activities.
