Audioguía Volendam, The Artist Village

Hello, my name is Leendert Spaander. I was born in 1855 and died in 1955 and I am your guide for today. Allow me, as an art lover and owner of the famous hotel in Volendam, to take you back in time. We're returning to the year 1910, for a walk through this traditional fishing and artists' village. Yes, that's right; artists' village. You probably didn't know that. In my time, lots of famous painters visited Volendam and they usually stayed with us, in hotel Spaander. Probably the reason three of my daughters married painters and why my entire hotel is filled with paintings. But more about that later.
