Imagine a hitching rail out front of the building to hitch your horse to while you collect or post your mail, with the Post Master greeting you from behind the counter. In the back area was where they sorted the mail for delivery, the Telephone exchange was also in the building, when the telephone came into being.
In this particular Post Office the Post Master and his family also resided in part of the building.
This wooden Post Office building was gifted to the Museum complex by the Telecommunication Department (Australia Post), being surplus to their requirements prior to the construction of a modern Post Office in the town.
The building is significant, being of Federation architecture and having local history. It was moved to the complex during July to September 1987.
The old public reception and counter section now acts as the Museum entrance and shop.
The old sorting room now holds the Lady Enid Fletcher Lace Collection.
The Arthur Postle display commemorates the local sprint champion known as the Crimson Flash. In 1906 he was renowned as the "Fastest Man in the World".
