Welcome to Wandering with Poe, a contemplative walk through the beautiful landscape of the Ragged Mountain Natural Area in Charlottesville, VA

Why Poe... well simply because Edgar Allan Poe walked this land when he was a student at the University of Virginia in 1826. And we are confident that he drew inspiration from that experience to pen not only A Tale of the Ragged Mountains, but many of his stories, poems, and essays that draw on natural history.

Here's how it works. This is a GPS triggered tour. We recommend you download the tour on to your phone to avoid cell towers, but you don't have to, and once you've started the tour, all you need to do is put your phone in your pocket and walk.. and you will be automatically treated to a variety of Poe's works - as you traverse the trails. The first in either direction on the loop trail will be A Tale of the Ragged Mountains. This is the longest audio of the tour, at 25 min, but also the most relevant, as it was directly inspired by this landscape. After that, you will hear various poems by Poe that were also inspired by nature.

At any time you can manually choose your own selections by interacting with the screen.

Thanks go out to librivox.org and Lit2Go that have provided audio interpretation of literary works free to the public.

So now, press start, stick your phone in your pocket, and let's wander with Poe.
