The way Kazakhstan has traveled for a quarter of a century is a road of initiative and partnership leading to the achievement of a safe, stable, prosperous community of states. Possessing the world's fourth nuclear arsenal, the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, Kazakhstan announced on August 29, 1991, the closure of the Semipalatinsk test site. On the initiative of Kazakhstan's leadership, on December 2, 2009, the UN General Assembly adopted a historic resolution on declaring August 29 as the International Day Against Nuclear Tests.
