Musée Villa Caldogno

The Caldogno family, of Vicenza origin, started the construction of the country manor house in Caldogno around 1542-1548.

The Caldogno Counts, aristocrats from Vicenza, were owners of this agricultural court and of many lands located in Caldogno and in other municipalities of the Vicenza area.

The client, Losco di Calidonia, linked by close ties of kinship and friendship with Gian Giorgio Trissino, mentor of Andrea Palladio, commissioned the young emerging Andrea Palladio to renovate his agricultural factory in Caldogno to make it a representative villa, where he could welcome friends. and relatives.

So, like Count Losco, did many other aristocrats of the time, such as the Muzzani family and the Godi family of Lugo di Vicenza.

Villa Caldogno was built in the same historical period as the construction of Villa Saraceno in Finale di Agugliaro in 1548, Villa Gazzotti in Bertesina in 1542 and Villa Pisani in Bagnolo in 1542. Twenty years of open construction sites for the increasingly famous Andrea Palladio.

The villa remained the property of the Caldogno family until the nineteenth century, after which it passed as a dowry to the sister of the last Count Caldogno, married in Pagello.

Around 1920 the Pagello family ceased the ownership of Caldogno to the Nordera family and finally, in 1987, Villa Caldogno was acquired by the municipal administration of Caldogno and in 1996 it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
