À propos du musée
This prototype of a guided tour is used in the context of master's studies at the Bern University of the Arts. This project is therefore fictive for the moment. Thank you for your comprehension.
The project
Since the modern era, astronomical observatories have been the places where the sky is mainly observed and time is measured.
For almost 150 years (1858-2007), the Neuchâtel Observatory was a world reference for the determination and distribution of time. Thanks to the time signal which it has broadcast daily on the radio since the 1930s, it has shaped the daily lives of several generations of Neuchâtel residents and Swiss citizens. He made a major contribution to the reputation for quality in the regional watch and microtechnology industry. But its national and scientific importance is almost forgotten.
The first director, Dr. Adolphe Hirsch, gained international recognition. In particular, he contributed to the map of Switzerland, as well as to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in Paris, of which he was secretary.
The aim of the Association EspaceTemps is to promote a better understanding of science and technology. In particular, it aims to safeguard this emblematic object of Switzerland's scientific heritage and to make it known to the public through exhibitions and guided tours.
The memory space project will be installed in the Hirsch Pavilion, an Art Nouveau building, located at the entrance to the Neuchâtel Observatory site.
