Penne-d'Agenais is located on the borders of Guyenne, Quercy and Périgord, in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. On the banks of the Lot river, Penne d’Agenais is a steep medieval village full of charm, to be visited in all seasons. Stroll through its steep streets, which sometimes give off a little scent of the south... You will come across many artisan workshops and boutiques, during a walk which will take you with the strength of your calves, towards the one of the most beautiful panoramas in the region over the Lot Valley. Dominated by the silhouette of the Notre-Dame de Peyragude basilica, a Roman-Byzantine style building recognizable from afar by its silver dome! The town has not always been as peaceful as it is today. Rich in its own history, Penne is full of small places to live. Travel back in time and relive the atmosphere of the streets of the Middle Ages by strolling the cobbled streets of this village of undeniable charm with a generous past. Let yourself be seduced by this beautiful, picturesque village and take the time to explore this place. You will move and travel through the centuries, going back and forth in the past, being a modern-day Occitan troubadour. I also offer you an immersive experience in Occitan culture through its music and language. Occitan or langue d'oc was spoken by an entire society in the Middle Ages, well beyond our borders: all the way to the English court. (King Richard the Lionheart did not speak English but Occitan) Well before the French Revolution, Occitanie gave birth in Europe to the troubadour movement, the idea of equality in human rights, and racial and religious tolerance. A new culture of love which allowed the first moral and social promotion of women. Good visit.. Go up rue Ferracap.. Go through the Ferracap gate.
