Audio tour 1. Prehistoric settlement of Sandulesti

A prehistoric, multi-stratified site was researched during preventive archaeological excavations for the Transylvania Highway, in the territory of the municipality of Săndulești. 210 archaeological complexes were uncovered over a surface of 2957 sq. m. (partly dug-in dwellings, tombs, pits containing ritual depositions, provision pits, pillar holes) belonging to successive prehistoric villages.

The first discovered vestiges belong to a small settlement used during the Middle Neolithic [ 4900-4700 B. C.].

During the Bronze Age, the promontory was defended with a system of ditch, rampart, and palisade to the west, thus the plateau became a fortified settlement probably during the Middle Bronze Age [Wietenberg Culture, 1700 -1400/1350 B.C.]. It was a period of maximum development for this settlement that no longer provided temporary shelter, but became a stable and significant center in the Transylvanian Plateau. Roman pottery was also discovered on the same plateau, mainly on it se upper levels.
