Over het museum

The International Centre of Graphic Arts is a specialized museum and production center. It is based on the heritage of the Biennial of Graphic Arts, and on the art of print from the turn of the 20th century. It was established by the city of Ljubljana on 25 December, 1986, on the initiative of Dr Zoran Kržišnik, the longtime head of the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts.
As part of its mission, the centre has taken on researching, understanding, and protecting prints, artists’ books, and art publications. What’s more, as a production center, in its studios it offers the possibility of printing with various techniques to local and foreign artists. Through exhibitions of past and contemporary art, and the Biennial, it seeks to emphasize an awareness of the art which is both embedded in our social reality, but also questions that same reality, while also analyzing itself using its own means. Not least of all, we here at the center, with our rich accompanying interdisciplinary program, courses on printmaking techniques, and residence program for artists and curators, desire to make it possible for anyone to get to know, enjoy, and even create art.
