Over het museum

A must for anyone visiting Tuscany.

The Prato Museum of Palazzo Pretorio offers the visitor an exhibition rich with masterpieces that traces the history and the art of the city from the thirteenth to the twentieth century.

Since the end of the thirteenth century, Palazzo Pretorio has been a silent witness to the city’s political, civil and military life, austerely overlooking the Piazza del Comune (council square). Its appearance is testament to its long and troubled history, during which different architectural styles predominated and continuous alterations to the structure were made, with the last overall restoration begun in 1998.

Its re-opening after nearly 20 years, in April 2014, returned to Prato a place rich of history and suggestions.
