Georgy Tatarnikov (1914-1971) is a sincere and sensitive artist with acute eyesight and absolute pitch of a born colorist. His gift predestined his artistic way. Both the plein-air miniatures and the grand studio paintings show his true skill of the painter who continues the traditions of the classical European art and, at the same time, pursues the bedrock of the particular and new painting school of Leningrad.

He made his first attempt to enter in the Repin Institute right after the school, but failed. In six years he became a student of the Tavricheskaya Art School. However in 1939 Tatarnikov has been called for military service – he participated in the Winter War (between the Soviet Union and Finland, in 1939–1940), then he worked in the Political Administration Service during the Great Patriotic war. His drawings, placards, caricatures and portraits have been published in the periodicals. Tatarnikov came back in Leningrad in 1945 to continue his life work – the painting.
Striving to find his proper style, he was very attentive to the creative works of other masters as the classics of the Russian realism painting and the Barbizon school.
