Sobre o museu
Most of the stained glass windows here were created by the Willet Studios of Philadelphia around 1960-1962, when our Meetinghouse was about doubled in size. There are only three older windows that were made by the J & R Lamb studios in 1897. They are now combined into the three panels of the North Transept window and are stunning in opalescent glass. That technique was continued and made famous by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Most of the Meetinghouse windows tell a story so it's best to visit them in order. On the left (south) side, the five windows tell of the evolution how the Protestant movement was influenced. On the other side, the four chapel windows tell how our church here in Greenwich, CT, USA, evolved.
Be sure to click the Floor Plan of the Windows, the first Exhibit, to see where the chancel, nave, chapel, dogwood ("Tower") and transept windows are in the Meetinghouse.
A lancet is the name of a panel shaped like a spear or lance. It has straight sides that round toward a point at the top. For instance, the larger transept windows have three lancets, and the nave and chapel windows have two lancets.
You can jump around to see the windows in any order you wish. Be sure to notice when a main photo of a window has two or more dots under it. Click the dots to see more photos about that window.
There are three groups of windows: the Meetinghouse, the Choir area on the Third floor of the Education wing (stucco walls outside), and two rooms in the Undercroft where the Sunday School and Preschool classes are held. The Undercroft is below the Meetinghouse.
If your time is limited, see the Meetinghouse windows first. They're the best. This tour's audio says what the text says, so you can either read about the windows, or listen to the audio with your cell phone.
Enjoy!
