The exhibition Botticelli. His time. And our time compares the works of the great Renaissance master with pieces from contemporary art.
Sandro di Mariano Filipepi, known as Botticelli, was an undisputed leading figure of his time. In the Florence of Lorenzo the Magnificent, he interpreted an ideal of beauty that went on to influence many generations of artists.
The first section of the exhibition presents Botticelli’s work from different stages in his career: from his training under Fra Filippo Lippi, to his success in the Medici court, and through to the existential and religious crises of his later years.
The second part of the exhibition looks at a wide selection of works, from the 1960s to our days, to show how Botticelli’s figure is still used as a source of inspiration.
From an idea by Vittorio Sgarbi and Eike Schmidt, the exhibition was curated by Alessandro Cecchi and Denis Isaia, and realized in collaboration with Associazione MetaMorfosi.
