Creating a garden in arid environments is not only not impossible, but it can also be rewarding. And in fact, in the experience carried out for six decades by Maria Gabriella Campo in Favignana, aridity has been transformed from a limit to a pretext, a leitmotif for creating an original Mediterranean garden characterized above all by the presence of local calcarenite quarries which long and demanding reclamation interventions have transformed them into underground dwellings for botanical species from all over the world. In this way, his Garden of the Impossible, originally born as a private place all for oneself, where one can live, think and dream, has opened up to new revealing perspectives of a landscape design "thinking" aimed at the island as a whole , without borders, in full respect of the territory and the memory of an activity that has had great economic importance for the places. With patience, work and research today hibiscuses, palms, agaves, water lilies and roses, native and tropical plants grow in caves and underground galleries or in the garden, perpetuating the bond between man and the earth.
