The presence in Moulins of the Dukes and their government fostered artistic and literary life and eonomic prosperity. Ruling a province meant for them not just administering it but also improving and embelishing it. All over Moulins, there are traces today bearing witness to the patronage of the Dukes and of the ducal oficers as well.
This artistic life developed over the course of the two centuries of the duchy's reign (1327-1527) to reach its apotheosis at the end of the 15th century, attracting the best artists of the kingdom in a great variety of fields.
