Welcome to the Woods
You are about to enter the Virginia Department of Forestry Nature Trail. Human activity has shaped
and reshaped this forest, from its topography to its resident plant and animal species. Roads,
railroads, power lines and other signs of human activity are evident everywhere along the trail, but this is still a functioning forest. A forest is made up of trees, plants, animals and other organisms too
small to be easily seen. Interactions
between organisms are always
taking place within the forest and nearby areas. The signs along this trail will
