The Courtyard of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich Romanov at Kolomenskoe includes several architectural monuments of XVI - XIX centuries: the Savior Gate, the Church of Our Lady of Kazan Icon, the Front Gate complex, the Church of the Ascension (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Church of St. George the Victorious, the Water Tower and the Palace Pavilion of 1825.

The history of the Tsar’s Courtyard began in 1532, when the Church of the Ascension was consecrated. By the 1670s, the Tsar’s Courtyard ensemble was formed. In addition to the palace and the Church of Our Lady of Kazan Icon that served as the royal family chapel, it included numerous household buildings and outbuildings. Some of them have survived to this day. The orchards with various fruit trees were no less important part of the Tsar’s Courtyard.

Later, in 1680, a wooden palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich was built on the territory of the courtyard. In 2010, the palace was reconstructed and is now located in the southern part of the museum-reserve.
