Calvene: an unexpected geography as a bastion of nature and tradition.

Calvene borders with the towns of Chiuppano, Caltrano, Lugo di Vicenza and with Asiago.

It is precisely towards this best famous mountain resort, in the province of Vicenza, that Calvene stands as a bridge connecting the hills of the Bregonze to the mountains of Asiago.

In the territory of Calvene there are, in fact, ancient ascent routes leading to the Altipiano dei Sette Comuni or of Asiago - the plateau of seven municipalities which are a Cimbrian enclave in the Region of Veneto, north-east Italy-: one is throughout the Val Porca and another is along the Val Chioda and the Val Savina.

In addition to the Astico River, Calvene is crossed in the east by the Chiavona,stream (Ciaona in the local dialect). Today, the Chiavona is a tributary of the Astico River with a modest rate of flow, but it was once an indomitable stream, susceptible to disastrous floods that caused epochal misfortunes.

Calvene is a small town with a peculiar geography, which develops in a rhythmic succession of hills-foothills-mountains.

Starting from a height of 165 meters, in a basin at the bottom of the valley, it is closed to the south by the Monte Grumo (385 m), a relief of morainic origin in the area of the Bregonze.

In the north, Calvene rises towards the Altipiano di Asiago, with an elevation gain of almost 1400 metres. Here, the territory of Calvene becomes high mountain and its landscape is characterized by deep wooded valleys and two peaks: the area of Monte Cavalletto (or simply Cavalletto), at 1230 meters, and Cima Fonte (or Cima Fonti), at 1519 metres. This last mountaintop is best known as the most panoramic point, situated in the southern foothills of the Altipiano dei Sette Comuni.

With its numerous scattered hamlets, with an ultra-millennial history and a profound community identity, Calvene is a widespread rural town, offering a secluded natural space.

Here, people can relax and have fun, by moving vertically and horizontally in the open air, by immersing themselves in genuine sensory experiences, by opening up, if desired, to an ancestral cultural heritage.
