It was the 1960 when the "Museo Civico storico artistico" of Busto Arsizio was created, but it was opened only the 3rd May 1990.
The Museum was established in Palazzo Marliani Cicogna. This palace was occupied by the counts Marliani, owner of the feud of Busto Arsizio between the XVII and the XVIII centuries, then by the family Cicogna from the 1799 until the 1822.
After that the building was used as public offices. In the middle of '80s the palace was restored to become a Museum. The early part of the collection was increased by various donation like the Gaetano Crespi Legorino donation (1991) and the Don Marco Rossi one (1994). In the 2002 a second restoration permitted the opening of new areas inside the Museum like expositive rooms for temporary exhibitions.
