The Church of San Luigi dei Francesi is located in the historic center of Rome and was built in the 16th century as the national church for the French community in Rome. It is dedicated to San Luigi IX, the king of France, known for his religious devotion and philanthropic activity. The church is famous for its collection of works of art, particularly three masterpieces by the famous Italian painter Caravaggio, which are housed in the Contarelli Chapel. These paintings represent the life of San Matteo and are considered among the masterpieces of Italian Baroque. The church also houses other valuable works of art, including a wooden crucifix from the 14th century and a marble statue of San Luigi IX.
