Musée National d'Histoire Militaire
The National Museum of Military History in Diekirch, Luxembourg, illustrates the Second World War, particularly the Nazi German Occupation in May 1940, the Battle of Bulge 1944-45 and the liberation of Luxembourg by the U.S. Army. Besides the Second World War, the Museum also clarifies the history of the Luxembourgish volunteers in the Korean War and of the Luxembourgish Army. The museum disposes of a large, diverse collection of genuine military artifacts and hardware of the American and German force which ranges from medical care to helmets, uniforms, weapons and tanks. In addition, a huge amount of contemporary photographs, cards, paintings and audiovisual material are exposed in the military museum which have been provided by US American and German archives, donations, purchases or exchanges. Moreover, the history of several key events during the Second World War like the liberation of Luxembourg, the evacuation of Diekirch, the thanksgiving organized by U.S troops or the Battle of the Bulge are presented in a detailed large scale diorama.
The museum aims to preserve the collective memory and to commemorate the Luxembourgish and American soldiers who served in wars.
