Permanent collection of murals

Muralism is one of the leading art movements that emerged in Mexico. Although its inception dates to 1910, it formally began in the 1920s. The following decades saw its consolidation, which continued until the second half of the twentieth century. The artists who participated in it tried to capture their vision of national identity as well as the social and political situation of the country. 

The MPBA mural collection spans thirty-five years of the history of muralism. In a single venue it brings together the work of seven artists representative of the movement, namely José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, Jorge González Camarena, Roberto Montenegro, and Manuel Rodríguez Lozano.  

Through this audio guide you’ll find that muralism was much more than a linear, unified movement. Instead, it was characterized by the aesthetic and ideological diversity of its proponents. These differences are evident in the works and artists represented in the MPBA permanent collection.
