The strengths of Ashot Melkonian's paintings are about harmony of hues and subtle yet honest drawing. His works presented in the national exhibition are painted al fresco, with glowing light, smoky green trees, blue flows and clever grasp of the perspective and reflect his honest admiration of the nature and the youth. These works, which culminated in his remarkable "With horse", are the nocturne of our painting school.
There is a universal theme that has been always close to Melkonian's heart, the theme of motherhood. In inch his painting, this theme receives a new solution and is depicted with a fresh attitude. In his eyes, the youth is excited with anticipation of a new day. His "Peasant Woman with a child" conveys the feeling of awakening nature. Melkonian's paintings dedicated to motherhood ooze of sweet home where the Armenian woman reigns.
