It was designed by Samuel Worth in the neo classical, gardenesque style, and was intended to be a place of peace and solace, well away from the smoke and grime of the city. By the time of the First World War however, the city suburbs had grown up all around, and the Cemetery itself was rapidly filling up.
Your tour starts at the Gatehouse, Cemetery Avenue.
