The itinerary includes a guided tour inside the Japigia district of Municipio 1. The Japigia district is a rather recent district and its origin is traced back to the spontaneous formation of small clusters of houses, on the eastern border of the Madonnella district, in the immediately preceding the Second World War. In this building boom, particular attention was paid to the urban budding that had already been spreading on the edge of the Madonnella for twenty years and, in its vicinity, large building complexes arose. The expansion became so significant that, on the occasion of the IX general census of the population, the City Council, with provision dated 05/14/1951, formally acknowledged the formation of a new district, which was given the name of "Japigia " and defined its boundaries. This denomination took its name from the main street of the area, for some time named after the ancient toponym of the Apulian region, in memory of Iapige, son of King Daedalus and legendary founder of the city of Bari. The Peucetii were probably also settled in the territory of the district; in fact for this reason, one of the most important streets of Japigia takes the proper name of via Peucetia.
A point of cultural and tourist attraction is the Military Memorial, considered to date from the Second World War.
- 1 Sacrario Militare dei Caduti d'Oltremare
- 2 Sede Regione Puglia
- 3 Largo Puglia - Parco Troisi
