Museum Exhibition "NATO: A History of Deception"

NATO: History of Lies is an exhibition focused on the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance (NATO): the largest military, political and intelligence alliance created in 1949 to “contain” the Soviet Union. Far from ceasing to exist after the USSR collapsed in 1991, NATO instead doubled the number of its member states, from 16 to 32.

NATO chiefs have been repeating endlessly that their alliance is “defensive” and “peaceful”. But the reality shows it is not so. In the last 30 years, they have repeatedly intervened in sovereign matters of other states, including militarily. Right now, NATO is waging a war on Russia through Ukraine, supplying weapons and training Ukrainian military.

Why did NATO keep expanding and drawing its military infrastructure to the Russian borders? Why did they keep igniting wars in Asia and the Middle East? What is it that NATO is really fighting for? The investigative exhibition on the history of NATO, the history of lies, deception, aggression, terror and war, is here to answer all those questions.

The exhibition was organized by the Center for Public Education, an autonomous non-profit organization of extracurricular education, with support from the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, and arranged by the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia together with the Russia — My History Multimedia Historical Parks association. Murals were painted by Aleksandr Kupalyan.

Exhibits have been provided by Russian museums, archives, news agencies, along with artifacts collected by the special inter-museum task group set up by the Russian Ministry of Culture in 2022 to search for museum pieces in the SMO territories, as well as original items from T. V. Ponomarenko-Leverash’s collection.

 Instead of distant past, we start our investigation with contemporary events: the deep crisis in Ukraine, provoked to a large extent by NATO policies.
