Are you ready for an exciting journey through Eidsvoll's cultural landscape? On this Eidsiva route, you'll walk ground where Vikings gathered for their assemblies over 1,000 years ago, treading the same paths as medieval pilgrims and modern travelers.

For this journey, we have selected two main themes: Transportation and Justice, both spanning a millennium of development.

By using this app, we at the Eidsivating Association can guide you from point to point. What can we offer you?
Stories about transportation evolution - from Viking ships dragged overland to the elegant Skibladner paddle steamer on Lake Mjøsa since 1856, to Norway's first steam railway line that connected ancient waterways to the modern world.

Today, Eidsvoll stands as a vital transportation hub where train, water, road, and air routes converge - a meeting point of ancient waterways, modern railways, highways, and nearby Oslo Airport.
We also have stories about Justice, from the ancient Eidsivating assembly where Viking chieftains established laws in 1022, to Gallow Hill (Galgehaugen) with its tragic infanticide case. You'll discover how our modern courts emerged from these thousand-year-old traditions, and meet Camilla Collett - Norway's first feminist who continued this long struggle for equality, much like Mary Wollstonecraft did for British women.

In the app, you'll find maps, historical photographs, and stories in multiple languages. The journey begins at the new Eidsvoll railway station, uncovering stories spanning ten centuries along the Eidsiva route.
Take all the time you need. Feel history's presence as you walk in the footsteps of a thousand years of Norwegian transportation and legal development.

This journey was created with support from Eidsvoll Municipality, the DNB Savings Bank Foundation, Akershus County, and the Eidsivating Association.

Welcome to Eidsvoll and enjoy your journey through the ages.
