Our GPS tour is designed as a classic sightseeing route, moving from one site to the next. At the end of each description, I will guide you on where to go next.
The "Eternal City" Historical and Ethnographic Park is a recreation of an ancient Uzbek city, remarkable in its magnificence. This 17-hectare cultural complex reflects the essence of historic cities such of Uzbekistan as Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana, Tashkent, Khiva, and others. It was built as a tribute to the Uzbek people’s enduring heritage—preserving ancient architecture, honoring the crafts of their ancestors, and carrying this knowledge across generations. The mission of the Eternal City is to showcase, in one space, the full diversity and beauty of Uzbek national culture, local traditions, and folk art.
Workshops from across Uzbekistan are represented here, including:
• A Samarkand handmade paper factory with a working watermill
• Masters of Eastern calligraphy
• Full-cycle pottery and ceramics workshops from Samarkand, Gijduvan, and Rishtan
• Bukharan blacksmiths, gold embroidery artisans, miniature painters, and metal engravers
• Carpet weaving from Jizzakh
• Silk Atlas and adras weavers from Margilan
• Embroiderers from Shahrisabz and Boysun
• Galleries of national costumes and fine art
We highly recommend visiting the tandoor bakery to taste authentic Samarkand samsa and flatbreads. You can also savor exquisite dishes at the "Afrosiyob" restaurant, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the "Chorsu" bazaar, and explore the fascinating private "Quran Museum."
For those who want a deeper cultural experience, the Eternal City also offers unique master classes where you can learn to cook traditional Uzbek dishes. Try your hand at preparing Samarkand pilaf, baking crispy samsa, or making fragrant Samarkand bread in a real tandoor oven—an unforgettable way to take the flavors of Uzbekistan home with you.
The Eternal City also features the "Amphitheater," a main stage designed as a scale model of the observatory built by the great astronomer, scientist, and ruler of Samarkand, Mirzo Ulugbek. For families, there is a children’s zone with attractions, a fast-food area, and go-karting.
A highlight of the complex is the pier, from where sightseeing boats depart along the canal, offering breathtaking views of the entire "Silk Road Samarkand" tourist complex.
