Information panel Tramplein
If you are looking for a tram on the Tramplein then you will be disappointed. The name Tramplein originates from a time when the horse tram from Amsterdam to Alkmaar passed through Purmerend. Back then, from the Tramplein you could get to the city centre fast via one of the city gates. It is extraordinary to think that 100 years ago, the city was actually locked in the evenings! These days, the Tramplein is a bus station and still provides the connection to neighbouring cities. Admittedly, the station is new, but still looks exactly like it did in the past.
