Welcome to Riyadh, the vibrant heart of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This capital city has a population of 7 Million with an area of 2,000 km².

Riyadh comes from the Arabic word “rawdah”, meaning a garden; the plural form “Riyadh” means “the gardens” or “the meadows.” The name reflects the area’s old landscape, where valleys, water sources, palms, and fertile soil once created green patches in the heart of Najd.

Riyadh has ancient roots of about 2,500 years if we count the earlier settlement of Hajar al-Yamamah, which stood on the site of today’s city; however, the name “Riyadh” is much newer, appearing in historical sources by 1639, and the city became more unified when a mud wall was built around it in 1748.

We begin our city tour in old Riyadh, among mud-brick forts, historic gates, lively souqs, and grand mosques that still carry the spirit of a desert settlement. From there, we move into royal palaces, national museums, and cultural precincts that tell the story of unification, leadership, faith, and identity.

We then visit modern Riyadh through its skyline, luxury destinations, dining districts, entertainment zones, and futuristic architecture.

Then the city opens wider. We travel to Diriyah, birthplace of the First Saudi State and home to the UNESCO-listed At-Turaif District.

So, keep your eyes open — for towers, palm trees, stone walls, coffee cups, fountains, markets, and golden desert light. Riyadh is proud, fast-moving, deeply rooted, and full of surprises.
