About the museum
Welcome to the House of Uncle Hansi!
Jean Jacques Waltz, or by his nickname Hansi, is a painter famous for his drawings of Alsatian children with naive round face. Yet, the artist didn't stop to one type of drawings and practiced different techniques.
This house is called House Hansi because the owner were from the family of the painter. Indeed, his brother were pharmacist and he lived but also worked in this building.
This building located in the old district of Riquewihr is nicknamed : the storks' nest house. She has this name because every year, a family of stork comes on the rooftop. The building is a traditional house and stairs in spiral turn this building into a architectural treasure.
The museum of the Uncle Hansi's House offers you to travel in the different events of the life of Hansi at the first floor. You will be able to see the evolution of his drawings.
A recent renovation give the opportunity to fit out the second floor. This one will immerse old and young into the last century, thanks to a reconstitution of the typical classroom of the 19th century and a child bedroom. You will have the chance to visit the painter's studio.
