In 2020, the Newark History Museum is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote. The text of the 19th Amendment is:
"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States, or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."
It was passed by Congress June 4, 1919, and ratified August 18, 1920. In this centennial year, the Newark History Museum is pausing to honor the Suffragists who fought so long and hard for their cause, and to explore how they impacted Newark, Delaware.
